Malmö FF have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Raphael Adjei. He joins on loan from Golden Boys FC until December 2026 and the deal includes a purchase option.

Adjei, who previously spent about two months on trial with the club in the spring, will initially join the club's P19 team. He made his debut for MFF P19 on September 16 against Lyngby and featured in a 3-1 win against Västerås just four days later. Sporting director Philip Berglund is pleased with the addition.

"Adjei's technique and comfort on the ball and described him as a player who can be used in several roles in midfield," says Berglund.

The young midfielder describes himself as an aggressive player with a desire to control the game. "I describe myself as an aggressive central midfielder who wants to be involved in controlling the game," says Raphael Adjei.

The path to the first team

Malmö FF's strategy with young talents is clear. By bringing Adjei in on loan, the club gets time to evaluate him in the Swedish environment before any permanent decision is made. The terms of the purchase option have not been disclosed. MFF's P19 team is competing high in the P19 Allsvenskan, providing Adjei with a strong platform to show his ability.

History shows the path from the P19 team to the senior squad is well-trodden in Malmö. Isaac Assibu is an example of a player who took the direct route up. Others, like Yassin Mohammed and Israel Anum, gained senior experience via BK Olympic before establishing themselves at a higher level.

First-team context

While Adjei aims to establish himself in the youth setup, the first team is battling in the Allsvenskan. The team sits in seventh place with 33 points after 22 rounds. They are 18 points behind league leaders Sirius. The latest round ended in a 2-0 away defeat to Västerås SK FK on September 19.

Despite that, the team's form over the last five matches has been steady with three wins, one draw and one loss. The next match is an important home fixture against Kalmar FF on October 11, a team currently in 13th place.
