Malmö FF have a new head coach. Gaute Helstrup, 50, was officially appointed on Tuesday, taking charge of a team sitting seventh in Allsvenskan with 33 points from 22 games.
The coaching change follows the sacking of Miguel Angel Ramirez at the end of May. Guillermo Molins has been in interim charge since then. Sporting director Philip Berglund emphasises that Helstrup is the right man for the club. "He represents the football we want to play", says Berglund.
Helstrup arrives from a role as assistant coach at Bodø/Glimt this year. He previously served as head coach of Tromsø between 2020 and 2024, and has also managed HamKam and Tromsdalen. The new coach expressed great delight at the appointment. "It feels very inspiring. I am really happy that everything is in place and that we can now get started.", says Helstrup.
He takes over a team whose recent form shows three wins, one draw and one loss in the last five matches (LWDWW). The most recent match ended in a 2-0 away defeat to Vasteras SK FK. The next challenge awaits at home against Kalmar FF on October 11th, a team currently in 13th place. Helstrup's first task will be to improve the team's league position and utilise the strong core of the squad.
