Sixteen-year-old Leon da Silva from Anderslöv made his debut for the Malmö FF first team in a friendly on Saturday. The side secured a 3-0 home win over Danish club FC Nordsjälland.
The young midfielder came on for the final half-hour of the match, which saw goals from Sebastian Nanasi (42nd), Nikola Milosavljevic (51st) and Emmanuel Lomotey (82nd). "It looks easier when you watch it on TV," said da Silva about the experience of stepping onto the pitch.
Head coach Gaute Helstrup described the friendly as very useful for the team's development. "It was a very useful training match for us," said Helstrup. He noted the team was passive at the start but that the young players who came on later improved control and established attacks.
The win follows an inconsistent period in the Allsvenskan where Malmö FF currently sit seventh with 33 points. The team's last five results read WLWDW, with a 2-0 loss to Värnamo the only setback. The squad's availability and injury list will be key for the final run of season matches.
