Jimmy Rosengren has resigned as CEO of Malmö FF. His departure was at his own request and is effective immediately, with Niklas Söderström appointed as interim CEO to ensure continuity. The club announced the change on Monday.

Chairman Zlatko Rihter confirmed a good working relationship during the short period. "Since I was appointed chairman at the annual meeting in March, I, together with the rest of the board, have had a good cooperation and a good dialogue with Jimmy all along," Rihter said.

Rosengren, who succeeded Niclas Carlnén in November last year and took office at the turn of the year, points to a changed direction as the reason. "During 2026 we have gradually shifted focus from development and expansion to economic consolidation and efficiency where we have conducted a major overhaul of our core operations and then significantly reduced the size of our men's squad," he explained. His tenure as CEO lasted just under nine months.

Financial Restructuring

The background to this shift in focus is the club's financial situation. Malmö FF reported a loss of 89 million kronor for 2025, with a turnover decrease of nearly 117 million. Costs continued to rise while revenues from player sales and UEFA compensation fell sharply. The club expects an even larger operational loss for the current year.

This situation has made cost control central, which has meant a significant reduction in the men's squad. The club has become more dependent on player sales to balance the books. This restructuring underpins Rosengren's decision to step down.

Interim CEO Takes Over

Niklas Söderström, who has worked at the club for 18 years and previously served as deputy CEO, now takes over on an interim basis. "I am proud and glad to receive the trust as interim CEO after 18 years in the club," Söderström said. He added that he is humble before the assignment.

Rosengren will remain available during a transition period. The club thanked him for his efforts and wished him success in the future.

The sporting situation appears to be stabilising despite the financial challenges. The team sits seventh in Allsvenskan with 33 points after 22 games and has won three of its last five matches. The next fixture is against Kalmar FF at home on Saturday, an opportunity to build on the recent victory.
