Malmo FF's former defensive star Anel Ahmedhodzic is now on Southampton's radar. The 27-year-old Bosnian, who played for Malmo FF between 2018 and 2020, has now become a target for Southampton in the Championship. Ahmedhodzic has an impressive career behind him with spells at Nottingham Forest, Bordeaux and Feyenoord.
What happened?
Southampton have now contacted Feyenoord to negotiate a transfer for Ahmedhodzic. The Bosnian defender has a contract until 2029 with Feyenoord, but the club is willing to let him go for £5 million. Ahmedhodzic has previously played in the Championship with Sheffield United and therefore has experience of the English league.
Why is it important for Malmo FF?
Even though Ahmedhodzic no longer plays for Malmo FF, his career is still of interest to the club's fans. He was an important part of the team during his time at Malmo and his successes in Europe show the club's ability to develop talent. Additionally, a potential move to Southampton could increase Malmo FF's profile in Europe.
What comes next?
Southampton and Feyenoord are now in negotiations for Ahmedhodzic's transfer. Sheffield United are also interested in bringing the defender back to Bramall Lane. Malmo FF, who are currently 9th in Allsvenskan with 23 points from 16 games, continue to fight for a better position in the league. Malmo FF's next match is at home against BK Hacken on October 18, 2026.
