Malmo FF's terrifying trip to the Soviet Union in 1978 was one of the most memorable events in the club's history. I was on the trip and the match for over forty-five years ago, October 18, 1978, in the second round of the European Cup for champions 1978-1979. Another stage that in May 1979 would end with Malmo FF's silver in the final against Nottingham in Munich, the greatest triumph ever for the sky blues. At that time, the teams and journalists traveled together. I remember it like yesterday, we lost all our breath in the air and it didn't get any calmer on the ground with the bus ride in the dark on treacherous bumpy gravel roads up to the hotel in Kharkiv late in the evening. Janne Möller was one of the most important players during this period, and his performances in goal were crucial to MFF's successes. In the match against Dynamo Kiev in Kharkiv, Möller kept a clean sheet and MFF eventually won 0-0, which was a great achievement against the Soviet team. Other important players during this period were Bosse Larsson, Krister Kristensson, Roy Andersson, and Staffan Tapper. Malmo FF's coach, Bob Houghton, was also an important factor in the club's successes during this period. He had a big part in shaping the team and getting the best out of the players. MFF's journey in the European Cup 1978-1979 was one of the most exciting and memorable in the club's history, and Janne Möller's performances in goal were one of the most important factors in the club's successes.
